The versatility and endurance of timber has been demonstrated by the winner of this year’s Turner Prize.

Artist Simon Starling dismantled a timber boatshed in Germany and remodelled it into a boat which he then paddled down the Rhine to Basle in Switzerland, where he rebuilt it into its original form before entering it for this year’s Turner Prize at Tate Britain.

The Shedboatshed was described by The Daily Telepgraph’s art critic as “a parable about ecology, about recycling, about saving materials and energy”.
