A stricken cargo ship carrying more than 5,000 tonnes of sawn timber has been evacuated off the Dorset coast.
Coastguard helicopters airlifted 12 crew members off the Ice Prince, including one with a broken leg, with the remaining eight taken ashore by lifeboats from Torbay and Salcombe.
The Ice Prince, carrying 5,258 tonnes of wood, was destined for Alexandria in Egypt but suffered engine problems and is now listing at 40 degrees to port, according to the Maritime & Coastguard Agency.
The MCA’s counter-pollution team has also been alerted as the ship is carrying 313 tonnes of intermediate fuel oil.
