Timbmet has spun off a separate panel products company from its mainstream business to spearhead sales in sheet materials.

The move creates Timbmet Panels Ltd and gives the already-established Timbmet panel products business its own board of management under commercial manager Barry Jackson. Timbmet Panels is to trade from a new 15,000ft² warehouse at Timbmet’s Cumnor Hill base, the subject of major investment in handling equipment and storage racking. The operation will have a 20-strong sales and service team.

The new company will also use Timbmet’s satellite centres in Rochdale and Glasgow where new warehousing will also be built.

Timbmet Panels says it will meet customer demand for prompt delivery and will hold ‘wide, in-depth stock’ to win new business. It is aiming for 20% growth on sales volume.

Products will include exterior and interior grades, melamine and decorative veneer-faced panels, plus moisture and FR ranges.

The company is working on a ‘selected supplier partnership basis’, with brands including Kronospan 3000 and ranges from KronoSwiss, Medite and Nexfor.

Two-day delivery is offered in the UK mainland, plus an urgent order service.

Group marketing manager Steven Crossley said: ‘There is a gap in the market for this sort of operation. We think that we can win business on prompt delivery and large stockholding. A few people can do the prompt delivery, if it is right for them, but there are not that many that can offer the sort of stock that we can.’
