TIMCON used a recent press trip to Scotland to spread the message about timber pallets to a cross section of industries.
Journalists from a wide range of trade journals, including TTJ, Warehouse and Logistics News, Professional Builder and Storage, Handling, Distribution, were taken on a “seed-to-sawmill-to-manufacturer” visit that included Unit Pallets Ltd’s Warrington site and Howie Forest Products Ltd’s state-of-the-art sawmill in Dalbeattie, Scotland.
The trip was designed as a fact finding tour for a number of industries that may not be fully aware of the timber pallet sector and was a “huge success”, according to Timcon.
“2007 has been a hugely successful year in terms of spreading the word regarding the corporate, sustainability and environmental benefits of using timber pallets and packaging,” said Timcon president John Dye.
“The time was absolutely right to take key niche sector journalists on a seed-to-sawmill-to-manufacturer visit, allowing them to see first hand the levels of quality, technical excellence, knowledge and expertise offered in the UK.”
“As somewhat of a novice in the timber packaging world, I found the trip both interesting and informative, without feeling bogged down with too much information,” said Elizabeth O’Keefe, staff journalist at Fresh Produce Journal.
“I particularly enjoyed the visit to Dalbeattie Forest and experiencing the timber pallet process at every turn.”
