Tony Mitchell of Tulloch Timber (Nairn) Ltd has been elected as president of the UK Forest Products Association. He succeeds Gordon Callander.
Gavin Davidson, of Iggesund Forestry (UK) Ltd, is vice-president, and Rod Gordon, of John Gordon & Son Ltd, junior vice-president.
Addressing a large group of members at the association’s AGM last month, Mr Mitchell said the UKFPA’s focus remained firmly on representing members’ interests and delivering value for money services.
“Despite the current difficult conditions within the sector, which also impact on our Association, we will continue to build on the Association’s strengths and hope to increase membership,” he said.
The AGM was held at the E.ON biomass power station at Steven’s Croft, Lockerbie, and following the meeting members were given a tour of the wood fuel preparation plant operated by AW Jenkinson Forest Products and the 44MW wood-fired power station – the largest of its type in Scotland. The dedicated biomass power station consumes about 480,000 tonnes of woody biomass per year, comprising virgin wood fibre, recycled wood fibre and energy crops, which provides sufficient electricity for approximately 70,000 households and saves about 140,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
