The Eden Project in Cornwall will be the backdrop to a series of talks to be given by members and staff of TRADA (Timber Research and Development Association) during May.

A a partner to the Eden Project, TRADA is supporting the ‘Plants in Construction’ month with talks covering subjects ranging from bamboo shelters in India to oak in Windsor Castle. A key topic will also be the environmental benefits of using wood.

TRADA chief executive Dr Chris Gill said: ‘TRADA and the broader timber industry can relate wholeheartedly to the aims of the Eden project. We all appreciate the need to educate the public, specifiers and users of timber about the value of the forest resource and the environmental qualities wood can offer, but the real challenge is to build understanding in successive generations.’

TRADA entered into partnership with the Eden Project in June last year and will supply technical knowledge for ongoing developments and timber information for use in Eden’s interpretative materials.

A major project TRADA and other partners hope to take forward is the design and construction of a ‘green’ building, to be erected close to the main site.

Dr Gill said: ‘Nothing could convey the qualities and properties of timber and timber products more effectively than a real life display of this nature.’
