Woodworks began in Cornwall where it provided £200,000 to 80 businesses over eight years. The Silvanus Trust is leading groups, including Working the Woods and South West Forest, to funnel grants to businesses in the wider region.
Woodworks is offering £375 toward the costs of training a new employee, up to £180 for the costs of equipment and expenses, and a £50-a-week wage subsidy for six months.
Silvanus Trust spokesman Will Frost said: “Many expanding businesses want to take on new staff, but are worried about the costs of getting new recruits up to speed. This is an excellent opportunity for existing wood processing and carpentry/joinery businesses in the south-west.
“I would particularly encourage businesses using new technologies and serving new markets to apply.”
