The national merchant has also invested in a minority stake in Staircraft, which remains in the hands of the existing management team with the addition of Travis Perkins sales director Mark Newman and the contract merchanting division CEO Frank Elkins.
Staircraft manufactures 700 staircases a week at its two factories in the Midlands and recently invested £2m in a third site to make I-joist floor kits. Its ability to develop innovative products has made it one of the UK’s leading providers of staircases to major national housebuilders.
The new deal could make its products and services more readily available to small and medium size housebuilders through the Travis Perkins network. Staircraft said it provided a supply channel partnership for integrated solutions.
“The new relationship with Travis Perkins will enable the company to rapidly expand our current business and enter new markets that complement our manufacturing skill set and our place in the build cycle,” said Andrew Hamilton, founder and managing director of Staircraft.
He said the relationship would accelerate its product expansion plans and provide advantages in scale and product supply.
“As part of a continued strategy to identify and partner with key building product or system suppliers which are critical to the build cycle, Travis Perkins recognised Staircraft’s innovative approach and class-leading efficiency in manufacturing,” said Travis Perkins CEO John Carter. “The company provides a natural partner to Travis Perkins.”
