The Timber Trade Federation (TTF) has given its backing to a tailored online cargo insurance scheme for the timber industry from a&b insurance brokers.

Following the launch of its own credit insurance scheme, the TTF said that it has given its support to the cargo insurance service as part of its commitment to promoting best practice within the industry.

“The TTF is keen to promote best practice and raise awareness of key issues affecting the industry,” said TTF membership secretary Jean Rennie.

“At the moment – insurance is one such issue.”

And David Riley, managing director of a&b, said that the insurance facility would allow timber traders to feel confident that all areas of their business are protected as the market for wood continues to grow.

“The current buoyancy of the timber market means that opportunities are opening up for timber traders all the time,” said Mr Riley.

“We provide a service which enables these professionals to take advantage of such opportunities while remaining confident that their valuable shipments are protected should the worst occur.”

Timber professionals are able to access the insurance service via www.freightcover.com, where protection can be purchased for individual shipments or specified time periods.
