Following the departure of the Timber Trade Federation‘s director-general, the organisation’s executive structure will be one of the key topics under review at its governing board meeting on January 27.

It was announced two weeks ago that director-general Paul Martin was leaving the TTF after the position, which he’d held since 2000 had been made redundant.

The Federation has been in deficit and the move was made as part of measures to balance its budget.

Currently the TTF is being run jointly by its senior full-time officers in conjunction with president Geoff Rhodes, vice-president John Tong and honorary treasurer Charles Sherbourne.

“I don’t want to prejudge or predetermine the outcome of the January meeting or promise that white smoke will emerge and we’ll have a new executive structure,” said Mr Rhodes. “But we’ll be reflecting on the way forward, what the challenges are for the future and what we want from the Federation. We may consider how other industry associations operate. At the end of the day, this is a democratic organisation and the structure will be decided by the membership through the governing board.”

He said that, in the interim, the senior staff will keep the TTF office “on track”.
