The Timber Trade Federation is hosting a consultation day for members and other key timber organisations about proposed EU due diligence regulation.
The event, on September 8, aims to give attendees a reminder of what the regulations are about and to have a detailed discussion on the issues and implications for the UK timber importing and domestic forestry sector.
Madeleine Garlick, of Defra’s international forest policy department, will give an overview of the proposals and their progress to date.
Issues facing the various sectors, including merchanting, importing, agents and UK forestry will be covered in discussion.
Discussions on the due diligence proposals are expected to resume in the autumn. In their current format, the proposals recommend financial penalties for traders caught dealing in illegally felled timber products.
