The Timber Trade Federation (TTF) expects to see a requirement for all timber to be labelled with species and forest of origin dropped from draft European legislation.
TTF chief executive John White made the announcement after sharing trade concerns about the requirement with the office of Caroline Lucas MEP, who presided over a report for the European Parliament’s environment committee which recently agreed key amendments to due diligence legislation aimed at excluding illegally sourced timber from European markets.
Mr White said labelling for all wood products was costly, impractical and added nothing to the legislation.
More follows in this week’s TTJ.
