The time is ripe for a major breakthrough for timber-based products, according to the Finnish ambassador Pertti Salolainen.
He was speaking at the Timber Trade Federation’s annual dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, on March 7, attended by more than 700 industry repesentatives.
Guests were shown the Wood for Good TV advert, with many seeing it for the first time.
TTF president Philip Underwood said the federation had spent the past six months making changes to its structure, management, services and communications. ‘We must continue to push through our agenda for change. The aim is to be more professional, efficient, modern, business like and outward-looking,’ he said.
The TTF’s planned code of practice and a timber manifesto for the general election are priorities. A training course for new entrants to the industry, organised with the Institute of Wood Science, is also being launched.
Mr Underwood added: ‘Our industry is determined to respond to challenges be they economic, political or environmental.’
