The Québec Wood Export Bureau is to consider using the Timber Trade Federation‘s (TTF) Code of Conduct as a role model for its own activities.

Jessica Faleiro, the TTF’s environment and communications co-ordinator, travelled to Québec this month to present the Code of Conduct, the Forests Forever environmental purchasing policy and corporate social responsibility.

Ms Faleiro said: “They are thinking about setting up something similar and wanted to know what the drivers were in the UK for coming up with the Code of Conduct.”

She also talked about UK trade initiatives to tackle illegal logging, the importance of sourcing timber from sustainable sources and providing assurances where independently verified sources of timber were unavailable.

Other subjects presented included markets for Canadian wood in China and Japan as well as a discussion of the new phytosaintary regulations governing Canadian wood packaging from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
