A new Channel 4 programme – Honey, I Ruined The House – reinforces research which suggests uPVC windows can devalue period properties.
The programme’s presenter Naomi Cleaver listed plastic window installation among revamps which can devalue homes. Her comments back up research conducted for the BBC last year which found installing plastic windows in period homes can knock up to £10,000 off a property’s value.
She said: “They might seem practical, but they look cheap and nasty and people will want to rip them out straight away.”
The British Woodworking Federation says its own research backs up Ms Cleaver.
Adam Frankling, manager of the Timber Window Accreditation Scheme, said: “It’s good to get independent backing for what the British timber window industry has always known. Virtually all the misconceptions about timber windows have now been eradicated and it is good to see they are really getting the recognition they deserve.”
