Ubangi Timber Ltd, specialist in West African hardwood, has secured FSC and BM TRADA Trak chain of custody certification.

The business, which is run by David Steele and David Hartley, was taken through the auditing process by BM TRADA Certification.

“It took abour three months to get everything in place,” said Mr Hartley. “We’re now well placed to handle chain of custody accredited material under the FSC and other certification schemes, which is becoming generally available.”

Ubangi’s customers, he added, comprising importers throughout the UK and Ireland, are “more and more aware of and increasingly interested in chain of custody”.

“We expect to be offering a range of species with chain of custody, including sapele, iroko and sipo,” said Mr Hartley.

Ubangi holds around 1,000m³ of stock in Liverpool and also draws on timber from German sister operation Treemex.
