A member of the Canadian government is to open the first self-build Super E timber frame home in the UK.

Super E teams up Canadian housing exporters with UK builders to produce advanced, energy efficient homes.

The house, near Looe, Cornwall, will be the retirement home of Doug and Sarah Stewart and is part of a development that has been shortlisted for a sustainability award.

Mr Stewart was inspired to build the home after returning to university as a mature student where he became an advocate of sustainability and prefabrication in housing.

The opening ceremony will take place on October 29.
