Forestry Commission softwood sawlog prices were down 10.9% in the six months to September 2008, according to new statistics just released.
The National Statistics on Timber Price Indices, produced by the Forestry Commission, also shows the average price for coniferous standing sales was £10.68 per cubic metre for the 12 months to September.
The coniferous standing sales price index, based on Forestry Commission sales, for the UK was 4.1% lower during the year.
