The first UK developments of a low-cost Swedish timber frame house concept, designed by IKEA and construction company Skanska, are expected to start on various sites this autumn.
BoKlok UK, a partnership of Home Group subsidiary Paramount Homes and housing association the Hyde Group, has unveiled the British version of the BoKlok house concept and said initial constructions are likely to take place in Newcastle/Gateshead, Edinburgh, Brighton and the New Forest.
The open-plan homes, aimed at people priced out of the property market, will feature 140mm external timber frame walls, floor cassettes incorporating steel web engineered joists and factory-finished Scandinavian double-glazed timber windows.
BoKlok will market the homes in conjunction with IKEA stores local to each development. The first homes are expected to completed next spring.
