Provisional statistics for UK wood production and trade during 2003 have been published by the Forestry Commission.
Topics covered are: roundwood removal from UK forests; wood product production from primary wood processing industries; and imports and exports of wood products.
In 2003, removals of UK roundwood totalled 7.6 million m3 underbark, an increase of 3% on 2002.
UK wood product production in 2003 included 2.6 million m3 of sawnwood – up 2% from 2002; 3.4 million m3 of wood-based panels – up 4% from 2002; 6.2 million tonnes of paper and paperboard – no change from 2002.
UK imports in 2003 included 8.7 million m3 of sawnwood, 3.3 million m3 of wood-based panels and 8.7 million tonnes of pulp and paper. The total value of wood product imports in 2003 was £6bn, of which £3.9bn was pulp and paper.
