Guidelines to guard against the risk of fire on timber frame construction sites are set to be published at the end of June.
The UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) said its experts along with fire prevention, Health & Safety and construction groups are completing the findings of the industry’s Fire Safety Project, which has investigated fire safety and fire minimisation.
Safety was again called into question after fires last month at two apartment blocks under construction in Edinburgh. Fire and rescue officials called for compartmentalisation to limit risk during the vulnerable period before the structure is sealed with panels and insulation.
A UKTFA spokesperson said: “Our experts have been in touch with Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service. Once again there is a small window of opportunity on sites for malicious or accidental damage and it is important action is taken to ensure the security of the assets.”
