UPM has donated its ProFi wood-plastic composite decking for use in temporary housing in Japan’s earthquake-affected zone.
The product will be used in a 200-unit family housing project designed by architect Shigeru Ban.
“Shigeru Ban offered us a great opportunity to help the earthquake victims in Japan,” said Markku Koivisto, director of UPM ProFi.
Corridors and outside decking are built from ProFi.
The Container Temporary Housing Project is a continuation of UPM’s collaboration with the architect. He previously used ProFi in a show pavilion and furniture, as well as for balconies on the Metal Shutter House in New York.
