Sales in UPM-Kymmene‘s wood products division went up by 8% in the first quarter, compared with January-March last year, as sawn timber and plywood deliveries increased.

Total sales were €375m and operating profits €10m, with demand reportedly good. Prices for sawn timber have risen slightly but the

profitability of sawmilling operations was still “poor” despite improvements.

Plywood operations and the distribution of wood-based building materials maintained their profitability levels.

UPM-Kymmene’s overall operating profits were €175m from a turnover of €2. 5bn.
