Economic uncertainty combined with a seasonal decline in demand has led UPM to adjust its plywood production.
The company is starting co-operative negotiations with staff on lay-offs of up to 90 days in Joensuu, Jyväskylä, Ristiina and Savonlinna mills.
The negotiations are due to end by the end of November and cover about 1,400 employees.
Meanwhile, reorganisation of UPM’s plywood international sales organisation is almost complete. Parts of the sales organisation will be centralised to offices in Germany and the Netherlands.
Local sales offices in Italy, Norway, Poland and the US will be closed.
