US engineered wood giant gets green light on acquisition

22 March 2016

US engineered wood products manufacturer Boise Cascade has received competition authority clearance to proceed with its previously announced US$215m acquisition of Georgia-Pacific LLC’s engineered lumber production facilities.

Boise Cascade plans to complete the acquisition of the plants in Thorsby, Alabama and Roxboro, North Carolina by the end of March.

The company described the additional engineered lumber capacity as a good fit with its existing production facilities and would help it deliver products cost-effectively.

The Thorsby facility produces LVL and the Roxboro facility currently produces I-joists. Roxboro’s LVL production assets are currently idled.

Boise believes the addition of Thorsby and Roxboro will increase LVL billet capacity by 9 million cubic feet and I-joist capacity by 80 million linear feet.
