Panel processor and furniture component specialist VC Industries Ltd (VCi) has used the Carbon Trust to help it cut waste and energy consumption.
The Stourton, Leeds-based company underwent a Carbon Trust Survey to indentify areas where it could improve its environmental performance and, from this, the Trust drew up a practical action plan.
The survey concluded that, fully implemented, its recommendations could lead to a 14.5% cut in VCi’s energy use and 15% reduction in overheads, giving a payback for the environmental improvement programme of a year.
According to director Pauline Vernon, the exercise has also prompted other ideas on improving the company’s carbon footprint.
“We’ve recently secured a deal with a local company to supply waste for use as animal bedding, reducing the amount we have to dispose of,” she said.
