Portuguese door manuacturer Vicaima is investing €700,000 in environmental improvements to reduce carbon emissions by 290 tonnes this year.

Measures include buying efficient waste extraction technology to achieve higher output, electric trucks replacing diesel versions and an integrated energy management system.

Further improvements will include using advanced temperature control systems in the production process and adopting systems to achieve better climate control throughout all buildings.

“We believe that it is the duty of all companies to take care of the environment and to guarantee a better future, no matter what area they operate in,” said Vicaima CEO Arlindo Costa Leite. “Our investment in this area will continue.”

Vicaima has already implemented a series of measures such as building its own residual water treatment station and investing in a UV line which reduces the use of solvents in the production process.

The company’s total green investment is about €3m.
