The Swedish timber company has signed a one-year agreement with ABP, with the timber bound for Travis Perkins depots around the UK once it has been unloaded.
“I am delighted that Travis Perkins has decided to expand its timber-handling operations at the Port of King’s Lynn,” said Matt Jukes, ABP port director for short-sea ports.
“The port is ideally located to handle cargo imports from Scandinavia and the Baltic states and has an excellent forest products handling record.”
The first delivery of timber, 3,640m3, arrived at the end of January onboard MV Rika, and since then the service has continued to operate on a monthly basis.
Paul Jervis, deputy port manager at King’s Lynn, added that the agreement between VIDA and the port would carry on beyond the initial 12-month period, with the continuation of the shipments based on a price arrangement.
