MDF mouldings specialist W Howard Ltd, manufacturer of the Primer Mould brand, has been awarded full accreditation against a new standard called Carbon Action.
The standard, which is facilitated by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and Business Support Solutions who also provide support and training, provides a user-friendly approach to cutting emissions.
In achieving the accreditation, W Howard focused on reducing its carbon footprint, which, in 2007, was calculated at 2,981.23 tonnes. As a direct result of the Carbon Action programme the company has set itself the target of reducing that figure by 7.5%.
“No-one can fail to be aware of the impact of carbon emissions and global warming, it’s one of the major issues of our time,” said operations director Graham Williams. “Besides reducing our carbon emissions, we are seeing a whole range of direct and indirect benefits such as employee awareness for home life as well as work life and estimated cost savings of £40,000 per year. It will also make a major contribution towards our aim to achieve ISO 14001 this year.”
