The Timber Trade Federation and Biffpack are aiming to develop a project on packaging waste and obligations within the timber industry.

The initiative addresses concerns of TTF members who complain of being confused by packaging waste regulations.

Survey forms issued by Forests Forever in this month’s TTF newsletter, Focus, canvas members’ packaging waste needs.

The TTF plans to host a seminar on the subject; Biffpack, an approved waste compliance scheme, is acting as adviser.

Failure to comply with regulations cost Sydenhams Ltd £5,540 in fines and costs last year. It had not registered with the Environment Agency or an EA-approved compliance scheme even though it recycles packaging.

Financial director Ray Pride said: ‘It is not the easiest thing in the world to comply with.’
