West Fraser Timber is appealing against a Canadian competition tribunal ruling which would force the company to sell mills and harvesting rights to complete its C$1.3bn takeover of Weldwood of Canada Ltd.
The appeal, made on West Fraser‘s behalf by the Burns Lake Native Development Corporation, asks for the ruling to be rescinded or altered.
The assets in question are West Fraser’s controlling stake in the Burns Lake and Decker Lake mills, plus related harvesting rights in which the development corporation also shares an interest.
