WWF‘s Rethink China’s Outward Investment Flows report has pointed to the amount of timber that is exported from the country as value-added products to the West, with WWF Sweden’s Dennis Pamlin saying that the “main problem is Western consumption patterns” and that it is important not to just blame China for decrease in natural resources.
This is despite the report also stating that China’s forest products market, the second largest in the world, is set to increase further by 2010, with 125 million m3 of imports helping to supply the demand according to WWF.
