Weyerhaeuser is leading North American lumber producers’ call for a North American Free Trade Agreement panel to investigate US duties on Canadian softwood.
The company, headquartered in Tacoma, Washington, is appealing against the 29% duty imposed by the US Commerce Department and wants it investigated under the terms of NAFTA.
Steven Rogel, Weyerhaeuser’s chairman and chief executive, said: ‘The Commerce Department decision to impose duties is based on deeply flawed trade law and methodology designed to erect protectionist barriers.’
