Weyerhaeuser Company has announced a US$128m negative swing in its fortunes during the second quarter of 2008.

The company recorded a loss of US$96m, compared with earnings of US$32m in the same period last year. Sales were down by US$724m across the board.

Both timberlands and wood products contributed lower earnings to the quarter’s results, down US$34 and US$41m on their contribution last year.

However, Weyerhaeuser said it expects both business areas to improve during the third quarter, despite continued challenging market conditions.
