Weyerhaeuser is closing two former Willamette engineered lumber product mills to improve efficiencies and reduce costs.
The glulam plant in Simsboro, Louisiana, will close on June 30 and the engineered products plant at Woodburn, Oregon, will gradually reduce production before shutting down at the end of the year.
The move is part of Weyerhaeuser’s efforts to improve efficiencies, reduce costs, better align supply with demand and achieve a potential US$300m in annual savings over the next three years following its acquisition of Willamette.
