Weyerhaeuser says its entire US forest holdings are now independently certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) standard.

More than seven million acres of forest now satisfy the SFI’s requirements for protecting the environment and ensuring future forest growth, according to the company.

The announcement follows the certification of 2.9 million acres of forests in Alabama, Arkansas, southern Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma during February by independent auditor the Quality Management Institute.

Richard Hanson, executive vice-president of Weyerhaeuser timberlands and international, said: “Our customers want assurance that using wood products is compatible with good environmental practice. This certification offers independent verification that our forests are being managed to a high standard.”
