Wood and laminate flooring proved a popular attraction at this year’s National Floor Show, accounting for about 20% of exhibits.
The number of exhibitors featuring wood and laminates at the Harrogate show on September 3-5 increased on last year, with big new names including Meister and Parador from Germany, Stalheim Industries from Malaysia and Beijing Sihe Décor, China.
Timber traders Montague L Meyer and AJ Charlton & Sons Ltd, which launched a solid oak overlay product and a European pre-finished solid oak range at the show, were among UK companies exhibiting. An increasing number of carpet/rug companies have also started offering their own wood or laminate ranges.
Show organiser David Wildman said: “It’s still a growing market within the flooring industry. It does not seem to be cooling off.”
Mr Wildman said the show had seen a swing towards a better quality wooden flooring product, with solid wood and veneers much in demand, plus the emergence of bamboo flooring.
Overall visitor numbers to the show, traditionally a bastion of the carpet industry, increased slightly.
