Head of Forestry

Reports to CEO/CFO

Salary: Excellent package depending upon experience
Budget owned: Up to £100 million
Job Description: Dealing with all aspects of design, planning and implementation of plantation development, forest management and timber harvest
Location: UK based with significant overseas travel to the plantation

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:
• Hectare development ensuring annual planting targets are met and within
• Instil a safety awareness and culture
• Ensuring full compliance with relevant code of practice/forestry legislation
• Conduct market analysis and timber valuation
• Implement silviculture best practice, manage layout and forest
• Manage the submission and approval of the necessary permits
• Train, develop and manage the performance of the plantation staff
Skills, know-how and experience:
• Formally qualified in forestry establishment and management to at least
Master’s Degree level
• Background in training
• Experience working with tropical timber plantations establishment
and management an advantage
• Cost orientated
• Team player - working with our existing foresters
• REDD+ knowledge an advantage
• Cultural sensitivity to rural communities within the developing world

Technical / professional qualifications:
• Advanced Forestry Management qualification, ideally with experience in
Tropical Forestry
Dotted line reports / key stakeholders/interface
• Country Directors
• Board Local forest communities in Ghana
• National forestry commission
Key performance indicators
• Planting volume
• Planting accuracy v GPS
• Budgetary taken down to cost per tree
• Grading of timber stands post management
• Tree Health
