The European Confederation of Woodworking Industries (CEI-Bois), European Panel Federation (EPF) and European Organisation of Sawmills (EOS) is joining with other industry stakeholders to put on three days of presentations and information events from September 22-24.
This will lead straight into the Pan-European Wood Action Week, which will feature promotional events across the EU.
The Wood for Growth initiative starts with the opening of the WoodBox timber construction from the Austrian timber marketing campaign ProHolz. The WoodBox comprises a timber ‘freight container’ which opens to reveal a display of latest cutting-edge examples of timber building from around Europe. This is currently on an international tour of major cities.
A series of presentations and seminars will follow for MEPs highlighting “the contribution the woodworking industries can make to achieving a sustainable, carbon and resource efficient economy”.
“The woodworking sector is a major part of the EU forest based industries, which represent over 7% of its manufacturing GDP and over 3.5 million jobs,” said a campaign spokesperson.
“Through their value chains they also extend upstream to support a sustainable and growing EU forest resource.”
The lobbying campaign will target its invitations to its various events at specific European Parliament committees, and also senior European Commission representatives and other European and national “policy makers” and figures from the timber and associated industries.
