The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) has announced a global governance review to kick-start its new strategic plan.
The governance review will focus on the key proposals laid down in the plan, which includes simplifying the organisation’s processes, improving public perceptions and ensuring open dialogue with environmental non-government organisations.
PEFC announced the strategic review in October as part of a “significant switch in strategic direction from production to market access orientation”, according to PEFC Council secretary-general Ben Gunneberg.
The governance review panel includes Lord Jamie Lindsay, chairman of the UK Accreditation Service; Dirk Teegelbekkers, from PEFC Deutschland; and Hans Drielsma, of Forestry Tasmania. The review is scheduled to be completed by late spring.
