Brazilian Olympics accept PEFC and FSC

6 January 2014

The organisers of the Rio Olympics are demanding that all timber and wood products used in 2016 Games developments are certified environmentally sound – specifying three certification schemes as acceptable proof of sustainability.

Rio’s Sustainability Management Plan states that: “all timber used in permanent or temporary constructions must come from legal and responsible sources”.

It says that both forest management and chain of custody must be certified under the PEFC, FSC or the INMETRO/CERFLOR Brazilian Forest Certification Programme.
