German sawmillers closen ties with wood energy sector

The German sawmill and timber industry federation (DeSH) and the trade association for wood energy (FvH) are intensifying their co-operation.

With 2,000 factory-owned wood energy systems, energy policy issues are now one of the central topics in the sawing industry.

"A separate consideration of material and energetic use of wood is often outdated in view of the cascading use of raw materials in modern woodworks,” said DeSH Secretary General Lars Schmidt.

“The cooperation with Fachverband Holzenergie makes it possible to use synergies and to speak to politicians and the public with a strong voice.”

In the coming years, the associations therefore want to closely integrate their energy policy activities and coordinate them together.

"The sustainable use of wood plays a decisive role in the energy transition and the achievement of climate protection goals.

Process heat and sector coupling are central concepts that we want to strengthen and promote together, "explained Thomas Siegmund, MD of the Wood Energy Association of the Bundesverband BioEnergie e. V. (BBE).
