Investment and expansion continues for A&J Scott

26 February 2020

Following the recent acquisition of the Chirnside Sawmill near Duns in the Scottish borders, A&J Scott also acquired a 25 acre plot adjacent to its main site near Alnwick in Northumberland.

Since taking over Chirnside the company has renewed facilities and infrastructure and is now running a new production department to supplement production output at its site in Wooperton, which itself has benefitted from significant investment. The Duns location will specialise in re-sawn and manufactured products.

Total investment in capital equipment since 2014 has now risen over £9million, marking the company's determination to build on its success in recent years and being included in the North East Fastest 50 list, which recognises market leading companies across the region.

To this end the purchase of a plot of land totalling 25 acres next to its Alnwick site should ensure that the expected future expansion of the business can be easily accommodated.

The range of products the company can offer has also extended in the last year, fencing products, railway sleepers, garden product components are now accompanied by NHSS4 highways standard fencing. This range was developed to meet growing demand from national contractors and has already been supplied to several high profile projects across the country.

“The relationships we have with our customers give us the confidence to plan and invest for the future. We are now examining the possibilities opened up to us by the addition of this land to our site,” said Robert Scott, managing director “and we will use these opportunities to develop our capacity and output in the most efficient ways possible. The new developments will be designed to enhance our sawmilling output, product quality and service standards in the years to come.”
