We operate in an unprecedented economic environment. In 2013 we see the introduction of the EU Timber Regulation and the Construction Products Regulations (bringing CE Marking) and (potentially) major changes to Building Regulations, all hitting our sector in an eight-month period. This is an unprecedented time of change.
As a result, at BWF we are receiving an unprecedented number of new members and our helplines are busy with an unprecedented number of calls.
BWF has a vital role as a voice for the joinery sector, protecting it from the law of unintended consequence and misguided legislation. We also have a vital role in absorbing complexity and delivering clarity. Simply put, we save time and money and help ensure our members don’t miss something critical.
BWF Members’ Day is all set for April 25 and we are already approaching a full house. The day is pivotal in our communication mix, with workshops hosted by leading experts helping members to debate key issues and learn from broader industry experience. As well as looking at the new regulations, subjects covered include BIM, increasing sales, professional development, health and safety, lean manufacturing, testing and certification, and materials, glazing, coatings and machinery master classes.
This year’s keynote speaker is architect Andrew Waugh, who has extensive experience with timber in construction and, with his practice Waugh Thistleton, has pushed the boundaries of timber design.
The event finishes with a look at the wider construction environment, featuring a structured Question Time debate with an expert panel, enabling members to feed directly into the development of the new Government Industrial Strategy for Construction. There is plenty of time to network and this year we are hosting our largest ever table-top exhibition.
The day is free for members to attend (a huge thanks to our sponsors Vetrotech and Towergate Insurance and our exhibitors for helping us here).
In such unprecedented busy times who can’t afford a day out of the office!
