Yvette Cooper, MP for Pontefract and Castleford, has been introduced to some unusual residents at Arch Timber Protection‘s Castleford technical centre – termites.
Ms Cooper, parliamentary secretary at the Lord Chancellor’s department, visited Arch’s laboratories, where termites provide a test for new timber treatment formulas being developed. The insect colony is thought to be the most northerly in Europe.
She was also shown the CCA-free Tanalith E treatment, developed at Castleford in the mid-1980s, which provides protection against decay and insect attack.
