The head of Ireland’s Government An Taoiseach Micheál Martin has officially opened Cygnum Timber Frame’s €8m expanded manufacturing facility.
The expansion at the Macroom facility in County Cork will almost double production capacity, with annual unit capacity growing from 1,400 to 2,500 housing units per year.
Some 150 new jobs are also being created, while the expansion will support faster delivery of housing, and use advanced manufacturing technologies to improve efficiency and sustainability in construction.
“It represents a major step forward in supporting the delivery of high-quality homes across Ireland and responding to growing demand,” Cygnum said after the opening.
An Taoiseach Micheál Martin praised the development at the April 9 opening.
“I’m delighted to officially open Cygnum’s newly expanded facility in Macroom,” he said.
“This expansion will significantly boost their capacity to deliver much-needed homes. Modern methods of construction are key to our housing challenge.”
Guests from Enterprise Ireland Ireland and the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) also attended the opening, along with Patrick Atkinson, chief executive of Chadwicks Group, and John Paul O’Reilly, managing director of the Specialist Products Division.
Grafton Group plc (owner of Chadwicks) said its recent acquisition of Cygnum complements its Chadwicks’ trade portfolio and supports faster, more efficient delivery of new homes. The acquisition was cleared by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) in Ireland on March 26.
Founded in 1997, Cygnum is a leading made-to-order supplier of offsite timber frame solutions to developers and contractors in the Irish market, recording 2025 revenue and adjusted operating profit of €45.6m and €7.9m respectively.
