A call to ban logging on the islands of Java and Bali for the next five years has been sounded by State Minister for the Environment, Nabiel Makarim.

He is urging governors on the two islands to embark on a reforestation programme and says his ministry would launch an eco-labelling programme to raise public awareness about the need to reduce water, soil and air pollution levels.

The logging moratorium could also help alleviate natural disasters such as the landslide that claimed more than 30 lives in Mojokerto.
