The nine-mile round trip carrying the 6ft 6in-high, 30kg Snowdon door from the company’s Montana range, will be completed by 12 people working in teams of four to take their turn carrying the unusual load.

JB Kind managing director James Cadman, who is part of the team, said the company and St Giles Hospice were both celebrating their 30th anniversary this year and the challenge was a way of marking the milestone.

"We’re all in training for the event now so anyone passing our HQ should look out for us carrying a door around the roads of Derbyshire!" he said.

"The trek needs lots of planning, for example, our Snowdon door is one of our heaviest so this, combined with the size, means we have to be careful to keep the team from getting exhausted. We have also been warned about the dangers of the weather – from high winds to carrying wet wood, but in reality we all just can’t wait to get going."

The challenge follows last year’s fund-raising event when a team of 10 leapt 13,000ft from a plane to raise nearly £5,000 for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.

The team will start their walk at 7am on Saturday July 27 and hope to complete the challenge nine hours later.

"We would like to thank everyone connected with the Snowdon event for their support of St Giles Hospice in what is such a special year for us and for all at JB Kind. Their efforts will go a long way to helping support people living with cancer and other serious illnesses," said Helen Relihan, head of fund-raising for St Giles Hospice.
