GD Holz, the General German Timber Trading Association, said turnover grew to €11bn last year, although the growth could not keep pace with the 11% year-on-year increase reported in 2011.
Demand for flooring and interior doors was significant, while engineered wood products sales grew by 17%.
Timber products overall were 26% of wood sales while lumber sales and market share were down slightly. Sales of garden and outdoor products were also disappointing, but due to growth in recent years now account for 9% of wood sales.
The association said overall RMI was up and new construction in cities was also performing well. However, exports did not keep pace with the domestic market and sales particularly to southern European countries declined.
The outlook for 2013 was marked by confidence, said GD Holz chairman Jürgen Klatt.
