A call for more young people to attend the monthly Plywood Club of London meetings was made at the club’s 51st annual dinner in London this week by chairman Ken Edwards.

He said: “The club is in great shape, the meetings are thriving and this season was just as strong as the one before.

“We meet once a month in London for dinner, a drink and good company, and I don’t know of any other forum where the panel trade can be together.”

Mr Edwards said a wide range of topics were covered but that the club would like to see more young people at the meetings.

“We cannot claim to be a training organisation, but we are a members’ organisation so come along and meet your counterparts in the trade.”

Mr Edwards took issue with some recent introductions to the trade – certification, CE marking and, more recently, the Recommended Purchasing Policy. He said: “They are all great ideas, but just one thing: if we all follow the line that the nanny state is directing us via our trade bodies, then this is going to be an awfully miserable trade.

“We still have pioneers come through – we can’t all be the same.”
